How it is calculated
- Losses without monitoring — the number of unnoticed failures per year × (value of goods in the zone × share spoiled + other costs per failure: disposal, re-purchase, downtime, investigation).
- With monitoring the alarm arrives within minutes, and most failures are fixed before the goods are damaged. The calculator assumes 90 % of losses are prevented.
- Cost of monitoring — installation (design, verified sensors, mounting, configuration, documents) and annual service with verification.
- Payback — how many months the prevented losses, net of service, need to cover the installation.
For pharmacies, drug warehouses and healthcare facilities, daily temperature control including weekends and holidays is a mandatory requirement of Storage Rules No. 260n. Here monitoring is not only about savings but also the answer to the inspector's question.
Where failures come from
- an air conditioner or refrigeration unit failing outside working hours;
- a power cut or a tripped circuit breaker;
- a cold room door or warehouse gate left open in hot or freezing weather;
- a faulty refrigerator thermostat slowly freezing the goods;
- a receiving error: a batch arrived with an excursion and nobody noticed.
Each of these cases is caught by an automated system: the sensor records the deviation, the responsible person gets an SMS or a messenger alert, and the log keeps a record for the investigation.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the monitoring prices in the calculator come from?
They are a guide for a typical site. The exact cost depends on the area, the number of zones, wired or wireless system and documentation requirements — we will quote it after the questionnaire.
Why are not all losses prevented?
Some failures develop too fast or happen in transit, before the goods reach the warehouse. That is why the calculator keeps a residual risk.
What if monitoring does not pay off in the calculation?
For pharmaceutical organisations it is mandatory anyway. You can start with a minimal setup: a few wireless sensors with alarms and a cloud log.
